The project was developed as a series of programmatic spaces experienced in cinematic sequence along 2 ramps.
If the elevator is the tool that allows the inhabitor of architectural space to be constantly removed from one architectural experience and introduced to another in a jump cut sequence (think Downtown Athletic Club or the 1909 Theorem), the ramp is the tool that connects these disparate experiences into a single, unified experience from start to finish (think Jussieu). My project attempts to build upon the second experience by blurring the beginning and end of the experience and combining them into a single continuous loop.
To accomplish this, the project explores the tension between three elements: the skin, an inner tightly would ramp contained within the skin and an outer loosely wound ramp caught in a state of tension with the skin, at times being contained and at times breaking through the envelope and liberating itself.  Different programmatic elements unfold as one travels along the ramps and the skin becomes the datum against which to read these different experiences.
